For a lot of people, the idea of getting up early and working out in the morning sounds impossible. We get it. You’re tired. You’re rushed. You’re busy. You barely have the time and energy to deal with your current morning routine, let alone exercise too! However, there are a number of benefits to working out in the morning, including:

  • It boosts your energy and mood
    • Starting off the day with a workout is a great way to improve your mood before heading out in the morning. This can make the rest of your day happier and more productive.
  • It helps you eat better
    • Working out in the morning makes it more likely that you’ll want to have a healthy breakfast, which sets the tone for the rest of the day. Numerous studies show that eating a healthy breakfast causes people to make healthier eating choices and avoid overeating all day.
  • You’ll be more likely to exercise
    • Your day gets busy. Maybe you planned to exercise at 7 pm, but then you had to work late, or you needed to rush home to make dinner or a social event happened. However, if you wake up early to exercise, you’ll have nothing to do but work out.
  • It improves focus
    • Exercise increases your ability to focus, making sure that you’ll be more alert and ready to take on the day!

Tips for Motivating Yourself to Work Out in the Morning

Despite all of the benefits, you may still feel like getting up and exercising in the morning is too tough. Here are some tips for getting going. Once you make a morning workout part of your regular routine, you’ll find that it becomes tough not to get up early and exercise!

  • Plan ahead
    • Considering doing other, more mundane tasks, the night before so that you have more time in the morning for exercise. For example, pack your lunch, pick out an outfit and make a plan for breakfast before you go to bed. These tasks aren’t physically or mentally demanding, so you can easily do them when you’re tired from a long day. It’s a good idea to pack your workout clothes the night before too. This saves time in the morning and motivates you.
  • Realize you don’t always need the gym
    • Working out at the gym can be very beneficial, but it’s also time-consuming. Come up with workouts that you can do at home and save time while still getting a good workout.
  • Go with someone
    • It’s a lot more difficult to cancel a workout when doing so also means cancelling plans with someone else. Make a plan to exercise with a friend or personal trainer in the morning. This will motivate you to keep going.
