How to Get Out of a Winter Slump In Time for Spring

How to Get Out of a Winter Slump In Time for Spring

Winter can be depressing, especially a long, cold, and dark winter. In general, winter leads to a decrease in motivation and a lack of activity in many people.  Now that we seem to be approaching the end of the season (possibly) it’s a good time to discuss how to get out of a winter slump and get back to being active during the spring.

Here are a few tips that should knock you out of your winter slump.

Get Outside

During the winter months, it’s common to spend more time inside. This makes sense, since it’s cold and dark. Now that the days are getting longer and brighter, you’ll want to try to spend more time outside whenever you can. The sunshine and vitamin D will boost your mood as well as your health. Consider taking a walk during your lunch break or biking to the store instead of driving. Not only will these activities get you outside, but they’ll help you stay active as well.

Reduce Screen Time

With fewer hours of daylight, it’s tempting to spend a long time inside looking at screens. However, how that the weather should be getting better, you’ll want to try to reduce your screen time and instead do some other activities.

Clean Up

Spring cleaning can be a good way to clear your mind and refocus yourself heading into the spring. Get rid of clutter and organize yourself.

Create a New Workout Schedule

While you’re cleaning up your home, it’s also a good idea to clean up your schedule as well  – and you probably want to add in some exercise while you’re at it. Staying active will keep you in good health and it will also improve your mood.

Combine Activity and your Social Life

After a long winter of being stuck inside, it’s good to get up and social during the spring. However, this doesn’t mean you have to spend this time sitting and eating. Why not combine your social life with some physical activity? Go for a walk with your friends, take part in a team sport, or workout with a friend or personal trainer. All of these are great ways to stay active and have fun!
