Eating Healthy in the Winter

During the winter, it can be tempting to choose “comfort food” to keep you warm and happy during the cold days and even colder nights.However, this isn’t the best strategy for your waistline or your health. While sticking to a healthy diet won’t necessarily keep you from getting sick during the winter, eating well can help maintain your immune system. Plus, if you’re eating a variety of healthy food, you’ll have more energy and feel better, so you’ll be more likely to be active, upbeat, and energized.

Here are some tips for eating a healthy diet this winter.

  • Get enough vegetables and fruits
    • It can be hard to find several types of fresh veggies and fruits during the winter, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still eat them. Eat root vegetables such as turnips, parsnips, celery root, and beets as well as winter squashes to get your recommended daily intake of vegetables and try eating frozen fruit instead of fresh.
