Foods to eat when sick

Coping with a Cold

Cold season isn’t quite over yet. You might still be feeling sick and, while the best treatment for a cold tends to be rest and plenty of fluids, some foods can help support your body when you’re feeling unwell. Despite the fact that you may not feel like eating anything when you have a cold, it’s a good idea to try to eat some immunity-boosting foods. They might get you back on your feet more quickly.

Here are some foods you may wish to try when you’re sick.

Soup

Soup, especially chicken soup, has long been considered a go-to food when you’re sick. It’s easy to eat, high in nutrients, and is an excellent source of fluids. Plus, the steam from a hot bowl of soup could help act as a natural decongestant. Remember, if you’re buying soup or broth from the store, try to stick to varieties that are low in sodium.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is another great way to stay hydrated, which is important when you are sick. It’s a good source of electrolytes, antioxidants, and glucose. Plus, it tends to be easier on the stomach than other similar drinks.

Bananas

Bananas are a great food to eat when you’re sick for many reasons. First of all, they’re bland and easy to chew and swallow, so they aren’t difficult to eat when you have a cold. They also contain a lot of important nutrients and are a good source of soluble fibre.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is another food that is easy to eat, filling, and nutritious. It stimulates the immune system and helps control your body’s blood sugar levels. The fibre in oatmeal can also decrease inflammation in the digestive system. When you’re buying oatmeal, try to stay away from artificially-flavoured varieties. These are often high in sugar. Instead, try plain oatmeal and add honey or some fruit to give it a different taste.

Avocados

Eating avocadoes is a good way to get calories and nutrients when you’re sick. They’re high in healthy fats and they’re easy to eat, even when you’re feeling unwell. Plus, they can help decrease inflammation in the body, which can help stimulate your immune system.
