Five Healthy Snack Ideas
For all of us, there’s a time when we need a snack. In general, there’s nothing wrong with the overall concept of snacking. In fact, a healthy snack can give you the boost of energy that you need to get through your day. However, there are smart ways to snack and ways that aren’t quite so healthy. Eating an entire bag of chips at your desk without realizing it is one of the “not quite so healthy ways.”
The good news is that there a certainly healthy ways to enjoy snacks. Here are five ideas that you’ll love.
Try Some Fruit
Fruit is sweet, easy to carry and even easier to prepare. Most fruits don’t require much advanced preparation outside of washing or peeling them, so they’re perfect for tossing into your bag and taking with you to work, school or just about anywhere. Convenience is one of the most important parts of a healthy snack, so having fruit options is great.
Vegetables and (Certain) Dips
Vegetables are another great snack. Where some people go wrong is with the dip. Creamy dips often contain a lot of calories and many store bought dips and sauces have a lot of sugar and salt. Try dips like guacamole and hummus and, whenever possible, make dips yourself at home instead of choosing prepared ones. This allows you to control what’s in your dip.
Go Nuts!
Nuts contain protein and healthy fats. They also help keep you full. This makes them a perfect snack. However, many nuts also contain a lot of calories, so you’ll want to measure out your portions out in advance.
Some of the best nuts to choose are almonds, cashews and pistachios. You’ll want to avoid nuts that are heavily salted as well as those that contain sugary coatings.
Combine Items
A snack that contains fiber, healthy fats, and protein is much more likely to keep you feeling full and satisfied. For example, try a snack of Greek yogurt, raspberries and honey. Not only is this snack filling and healthy, but it’s also delicious!
Change It Up
It’s easy to get bored if you’re having the same snack every day. This can result in you abandoning your healthy snack options and heading to the vending machine for a chocolate bar or a bag of chips. You can avoid this fate by mixing up your snacks regularly. This will prevent you from getting bored and make snack time a moment that you look forward to in your day.
