Five More Ways to Have a Healthy Holiday Season

Have a Happy & Healthy Holiday Season

The holiday season is upon us! While this is often a wonderful time of year, it can also be a stressful time filled with activities, gatherings, shopping, social commitments, and more. All of this busyness can sometimes make it tough to have a healthy holiday season. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Here are five things you can do to take care of yourself over the holidays.

Manage Your Stress

Most people have a lot to do during the holiday season. You might be travelling, shopping for gifts, organizing social events, or rushing between different activities and gatherings. Whatever you’re doing, it’s important to take steps to manage your stress.

Give yourself a break if you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed out. Remember, you don’t have to do everything. It’s okay to say no to some invites or requests and you can have a great holiday season even if you haven’t worn yourself out buying gifts, decorating your home, and cooking an elaborate dinner. Try to slow down when you can and take some time for yourself to unwind and recharge.

Make Sleep a Priority

Getting enough sleep is an important part of managing your stress and having a healthy holiday season. Don’t sacrifice your sleep over the holidays. No matter what is going on in life, make sure that you’re giving yourself at least seven hours of sleep each night, if not more.

Eat Full Meals

Sometimes, you’re so busy that you feel like you don’t have time to eat. Other times, you purposely skip meals because you know you’ll be eating treats at a party later on, and you don’t want to consume too many calories. Unfortunately, skipping meals often leads to overeating later and you might not make good food choices if you’re hungry or tired.

Try to eat full, healthy meals during the holiday season to keep yourself at your best.

Stay Active When You Can

A big part of having a healthy holiday season is staying active whenever you can. Go for a walk after dinner, take the stairs when you can, and park a bit farther away from the mall when you go shopping. You can even make your social events more active. For example, you may want to walk through your neighbourhood with friends and family and look at decorations.

Staying active is great for both physical and mental health.

Pick your Favourites

You don’t need to deprive yourself to have a healthy holiday season. Everyone has a few favourite treats that they enjoy at this time of year. Pick the ones that mean the most to you and enjoy them. Tell yourself that you’ll have those treats, but none of the others. This sort of balance will mean you’ll be able to enjoy this holidays without feeling out of control.
